Greed of Feed

Oceans in Peril

Hi, my name is Vincent Kneefel. I am a 24-year-old underwater photographer from the Netherlands (www.vincentkneefel.nl). Over the past 10 years I have witnessed the impact of overfishing, pollution and habitat destruction on marine life with my own eyes.

Our oceans are in desperate need of protection right now. Commercial fishing, pollution, habitat destruction, development and global warming all are threatening to irreversibly deplete our valuable ocean resources. What was once considered an endless source of food to feed the planet is now on the brink of total collapse. Many species of fish have now been depleted to less than 10% of their original volume in the past 50 years. Most of the delicate reefs that fringe the equatorial and tropical coastlines have been completely destroyed or are rapidly deteriorating. Yet for the most part, the world is largely ignorant of this situation.

My request
We have to do something about this situation now before it is too late. You can help me by voting for me here: http://your09.nl/actie/.
Your ’09 is a Dutch project (part of Rotterdam European Youth Capital 2009) that helps young people to work out their dream; mine is to make young people aware of the beauty and diversity of our Oceans and inspire them to help fighting the problems.

How to vote
The voting process ends in March and works as follows: Press the link (http://your09.nl/actie/), click on my picture (the one on the bottom right) and press ‘STEM OP MIJ’. You can do this once per computer per day. This process only takes 3 seconds and is easily repeated on a daily basis.

Please feel free to forward this message. I would highly appreciate your help!
